In the Reference venue of this week, Today’s Prime Choice on/off the Web™ is the Internet Public Library (IPL) http://www.ipl.org/

The Internet Public Library (IPL) is a non-profit, largely student-run website at Drexel University. Visitors can ask a reference question. Volunteer librarians and graduate students in library and information science form collections and answer questions. The IPL opened on March 17, 1995.

The IPL was founded at the University of Michigan’s School of Information. Michigan SI students almost exclusively generated its content. They also managed the Ask a Question reference service.

Since January 1, 2007 it is being run by the "IPL Consortium", a group of 15 colleges still including the University of Michigan, and is being hosted by Drexel University's College of Information Science and Technology.

This website is a response to the lots of useless garbage reference material that was plaguing the net and hopes of bringing real reference/library where all can use. I believe they have done a good job.

IPL was started in March 17, 1995 and UNC Chapel Hill had a major part in its conception. As always if there is anything going on majorally in the education, UNC - Chapel Hill or Duke is involved.

They not only have a Reference section http://www.ipl.org/div/subject/browse/ref00.00.00 but also like any other brick and mortal library they have a reading area http://www.ipl.org/div/reading/ with some now public domain books. And online newspapers http://www.ipl.org/div/news/ from across the nation and world. IPL has e-zines (online Magazines) http://www.ipl.org/div/serials

They also have a cool kids http://www.ipl.org/div/kidspace/ and Teens area http://www.ipl.org/div/teen/ that the under 18 are sure to love.

So log on to The Internet Public Library at http://www.ipl.org/ and surf away for IPL Internet Public Library is my Prime Choice for today.

There on the Net are many search engines. One search engine has a search photo section I think is worth looking at. It can be found at Ixquich.com log on to http://us.ixquick.com/eng/ Ixquick searches various pics on various websites. Many people are looking for a certain type of picture for their newsletter, class project etc. and this is one place that may suit your needs. Do remember that you need to get permission from the copyright owner before using them. There is some public domain picture websites as well but I will mention that in another post.

This Blog here is a little different than most you see. I will enter other blogs of woe and wisdom later but today I set out to show the URLs of different websites that I believe that is a must see. As I say in my heading on my PCOOTW.

So off we go to www.refdesk.com This website has a myriad of content which to me is a must for a website to be a PCOOTW website. For those who are in school or need reference material this is a must stop site.



Refdesk is listed in my website s I use it often and many people agree with me that it is a great site and very useful in finding the information one needs.

Disclaimer: I do wash windows at a local pizza hut but Wow have you seen the website?

Even in or small town of what’s a computer? Pizza Hut does get a portion of their delivery orders by internet. Wow no more having to get out the old wallet to pay and get to stay in the comfort of the home.

I seen this early this month off of Refdesk at http://refdesk.com/sotd-arch.html it is a good site to see many things.
